19th Annual Lone Wolf Taekwondo Championships MARCH 10th

Greetings everyone!

As you are well aware, the 19th Annual Lone Wolf Taekwondo Championships is coming up fast this March 10th! I have some exciting news to report. Master Randy Waitman has agreed to travel to Powell the day before the tournament March 9th and provide a USA Taekwondo Referee Seminar.

As many of you know, Master Waitman is a 7th dan Blackbelt and a USA Taekwondo 1st Class International Referee. He has officiated in four continents including the 2003 World Championships in Germany. Master Waitman is one a few USA Taekwondo referee instructors that travel around and instruct seminars so that students can upgrade to higher levels. I personally took one of Master Waitman’s referee seminars last summer in Billings and concluded that he is one of the very best instructors for detailed info on competition. I have taken over 15 referee seminars over the years and he is one of the finest instructors for delivery of information. The class is for black belt who wants to upgrade their levels in the USA Taekwondo classes. It is also for any blue belt and red belts who just want to learn more about the rules and gaining confidence as a center referee. I believe their classes are under consideration for levels upon completion of black belt. I am strongly encouraging Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana instructors and students to attend this seminar and since this is a first time USA Taekwondo referee seminar in this area. This a great opportunity to get some of your students charged up who do not want to go the competitive route and desire to find another aspect of their training. The cost of the seminar is $60.00. I am hoping to just break even. The class will be all day with a lot of practicals.

On a side note, if either your school or any parents want an advertisement in our program (GOOD LUCK TO JOHN??? OR SCHOOL??) Please let me know. I have had parents and business owners from distant schools ask in the past why they were not asked to advertise in the past. I am looking forward to seeing everyone back again this year and this will be the finest competition here ever! If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

First-Ever MTA Womens Retreat a BIG SUCCESS

(December 2011) On Saturday, December 3, 2011, women from around the state of Montana gathered at the beautiful Fairmont Hot Springs for the formation and first ever meeting of the Montana Taekwondo Association Women’s Leadership Council.

The event was open to all women martial artists in Montana over the age of 15. Of the women who fit this criteria, 36 percent felt the retreat was worth their incredibly valuable time to attend. Through the 18 women in attendance, 7 of the 9 Montana Taekwondo Association affiliated schools were represented.

The women in attendance felt that the weekend was very successful and a giant step in the right direction to supporting and unifying women taekwondoists throughout the state. The mission of the Women’s Leadership Council, decided upon by all present, is to unite, empower and support the diverse community of women and girls in Montana Taekwondo.

The Council plans to fulfill this mission through various avenues including the following: meetings for women held throughout the year, planning and organizing seminars focusing on topics specific to women such as self defense, and lastly taking what they learn from those gatherings and sharing them with other women in their different communities.

The ideas presented and discussed were met with enthusiasm from the women present. Many are excited at this opportunity to improve Taekwondo for all women practicing in Montana and to have another path through which they can reach women in their communities.

Apart from discussing the ideas, path and mission of the group, there was time for fellowship, pool poomsae and relaxation. Many women expressed their thankfulness for the atmosphere of the group and the chance to partake in the opportunity.

The Council plans to hold more retreats similar to this one in the future and hopes that all Montana women taekwondoists will find the gatherings worth while to attend and support.
