Montana Taekwondo Association Black Belt Certification Program
| The Montana Taekwondo
Association offers annual MTA and Kukkiwon black belt certification
for its members and member clubs. Historically,
internationally-recognized black belt certification has often been
difficult to obtain for many Montana instructors. This has made it
extremely difficult for many instructors to advance or to provide
recognized dan certification for their students. Additionally,
unscrupulous martial arts instructors have at times abused the dan
certification process to advance personal interests and agendas. Since
2006, the MTA has worked to take the politics and abuse out of the
process by providing access to annual Kukkiwon dan testing to all
members and member clubs in good standing.
MTA Dan Committee
The MTA Dan Committee is comprised of all MTA
member black belts who are 4th dan or above. Senior Montana black belt
holders define minimum requirements for Montana black belts in keeping
with the standards of the Kukkiwon. Members of the committee oversee
the exam itself (black belts 3rd dan and below who have students
participating in the exam may also sit on the panel) and make the
final recommendation for promotion.
Starting in 2010, in addition to Kukkiwon
certification the MTA also presents successful candidates with MTA
Black Belt Certificates in recognition of their accomplishment at the
successful conclusion of the exam (Kukkiwon certificates take about 30
